The ever-growing "shrine" to the Traveller game. Starting
with the "crown jewel", the old GDW sign from Normal, Jay has
built a collection of original artwork, promotional items and original
manuscripts from the grand master of science-fiction games. He is looking
for interesting historical tidbits, memorabilia and unpublished original
material to add to the collection. Leads are appreciated.
Marc Miller, operating under the name Far Future Enterprises, is republishing
all of the original Classic Traveller books in a collector edition. The first
five volumes have sold quite well and number six, Journal of
the Travellers' Aid Society, Issues 1-12 is just coming out. This
latest volume is the first time much of the material in the first several
issues of the JTAS magazine has been available in twenty years. Articles in those
issues helped to lay the foundation for many full adventures, supplements and
large portions of what is called "Traveller Canon" today.
We have an extended Traveller campaign here at the store which was just reborn from the climax of the last chapter. Campaign Notes for this new adventure are now available with frequent updates planned!
Qwiklink Interactive has been publishing Traveller products for their GRiP online
gaming tool for a couple of years. Recently they purchased the Judges
Guild Traveller line and a load of early 80's supplements. Soon they will
be publishing new Judges Guild Traveller materials and a
d20 version of Traveller. We will carry the line as it is
published and pass on more information about the materials when we see them. Also
coming from Qwiklink will be fiction from the T:TNE setting that may help to sew
up some loose ends for that system.
One of the biggest success stories in Traveller licensing in the history of the
game is the GURPS, put out by Steve
Jackson Games. They were fortunate as well as wise when they hired Loren
K. Wiseman to be line editor for GURPS: Traveller. The
line has had very high quality of writing, art, editing and finish. It has sold
very well as a result and over twenty items have come out in the first three
years of the line. We stock the G:T items and have used them in play and can
attest that they are very worthwhile additions to the bibliography (see below).
Traveller is having a birthday, and it's a big one this year. Several special
products are coming out for the 25th birthday, the actual date of which is July 22nd,
2002. Loren is putting together a starter package of G:T items at a special price
for the occasion. Marc Miller has already started selling a commemorative polo shirt
with the logo at the right embroidered on it.
As a special project for this Silver Anniversary, a friend of Jay's has been
given permission by Marc to produce an
Illustrated Traveller Bibliography on the Web. The site will have cover scans of
everything ever published for Traveller, or a least that is the goal. It is coming along
fairly well. In addition to the images, there is some bibliographic information on each
item, such as publisher, author, date, number of pages, etc. For periodicals there is
a listing of the Traveller related contents. If you have ever played Traveller, this site
is like a walk down memory lane. If you thought you had a goodly collection of Traveller,
this site might make you a wee bit envious. Either way, it will give your internet
connection a workout!
