When Role Playing Games first sprang up in the early 70's, who would have imagined the plethora of titles, genres and styles of games that have hit the shelves in the past thirty years? Or even that the idea would last thirty years! And to think that the whole idea sprang up from war gaming taken a bit too far. You've heard the stories, how guys got so deeply involved with the "character" of their senior officers in nepolionic battles that they started taking on the persona while they were gaming. The idea then carried over to fantasy war games with Lord of the Rings style epic characters, from which was born D & D.

From those humble beginnings of gaming on a few college campuses has grown an industry, by fits and starts. At some points eclipsing, but never replacing, traditional gaming.

To the point today where you recognize many of the games represented by the little images on this page. From paper and pencil games to collectible card games to table top miniature battle games, RPG tie-ins and expansions and variations abound.
