A Request From the Starship

It's a lovely day and the snow is falling here outside of the starship (how there is snow in orbit, I am not entirely sure...) and I am sitting here thinking abotu games that could be happening. What better way to get the answers to my questions than by asking? Take a few minutes, dear friends, to fill out this little survey. There may, as mentioned, be a soda in it for you.

News From The Starship (...And Greasus Goldtooth)

You all (or at least the Warhammer Fantasy Players) know Greasus Goldtooth. The rotund leader of the Ogre Kingdoms has produced a plan. Get all of the greatest heroes (HEROES!) from around the land, bring them to fight in a battle to the death to see who is the strongest of them all. Of course, they should be willing to ignore the fact that each representative who comes has a Maneater sent to their fine kingdoms to pilfer whatever the great heroes have left behind...

Nevertheless, the Great Maw opens and calls out for heroes from every race to come and wreak bloody havoc on February 18th, 2012. Rules are available at the store, but the long and short of it is you can have up to two heroes (no, no lords) and absolutely no Wizards (Vampire Counts, time for you to get creative!). You'll create three separate "kits" (sets of magical items) for your heroes, and no kit can be used more than once. It'll be a day of blood and glory!

And after Goldtooth has ransacked your kingdom's best and finest, take the fight to him (or anyone else) on February 25th - the kickoff for our Fantasy tournament.

News From The Starship

This Saturday (1/28/2012) marks the pre-release party for the new Magic: The Gathering expansion - Dark Ascension. Join us at the store for a sealed draft tournament. Registration starts at 9:30 AM and play begins at 10:00 AM. Depending upon product availability, there will possibly be a second tournament immediately following the first!

Introductory boxes from the Dark Ascension set will also be available on Saturday.

Also, join us on the following Saturday (2/4/2012) for exactly the same thing, but held as a release event! Twice the number of tournaments for your gaming pleasure.

News From The Starship (A Call to Arms)

Warhammer 40k - In the Grim Darkness of the Distant Future, There is Only War

You've asked for it and it has returned in all it's Imperial majesty. On December 3rd, the cosmos will gird itself for all out war as combatants from across the stars collide. The Warhammer 40k league will begin again. Open to all competitors, this league is a no-elimination event that will run for several weeks on Saturday mornings. The game will run from 11 AM until the completion of a game. Be there to lead your army to victory.

News From The Starship (Magic Related)

We made a little bit of a mistake. Due to some scheduling mishaps, we missed the deadline for registering the month of December for Friday Night Magic with the DCI. As a result, none of our events in the month of December will have a DCI sanction, nor will we have the December promotional card to give away. We cannot therefore run "Friday Night Magic" [please note the careful use of quotation marks].

However!

We will be running "Magic on Friday Nights," which will be almost exactly the same. In order to compensate for not having the official promotional card, we have searched our vaults and come up with some cards that may whet your collective appetites. Instead of the normal four promotional cards, we will be giving TRIPLE the amount (12 cards) each night, with at least three randoms being given (but potentially as high as six!). The prize support that we as a store provide will remain the same.

And, as if that weren't enough, we will also be randomly giving away some of the standees that Wizards of the Coast has been kind enough to give to us. The exact night we decide to do so will be a mystery - you'll have to be there to find out.

But we made a mistake you say, and surely there must be more than some great promo cards and large cardboard cutouts of your favourite magic characters to make up for it. Well then, we are only to happy to provide. On December 23rd, the prize for the top winner is a box of the "From the Vaults" collector's series.

We hope you'll all continue to support your local game store, and the hobby you love. We'll look forward to seeing you there!

News From The Starship

Have a Leman Russ that has been part of a squadron in your Guard army that wants to get out onto the field and shine? Or perhaps a shiny new Monolith, fresh from its overthrow of the C'tan and ready for some truly epic blasting? Or maybe a Carnifex, hungering for a chance to prove itself against weapons of war?

Whatever the answer, come to Tanksgiving at Medieval Starship! This is the second year we have been running the event and speaking as someone who has participated - it is a winner! Set in the GW universe and using the rules for Warhammer 40k, Tanksgiving is a no-holds-barred throwdown between - you guessed it - tanks.

You need not have an army to play, just a tank. Any vehicle can be chosen, including those from Apocalypse, and for armies that don't have tanks (Tyranids) you can take a mighty Carnifex. In order to balance out the power of say...a Baneblade vs. a Rhino, there is a conversion table that lets extra goodies be taken by lower point value tanks.

The event starts at 1pm on Saturday, November 19th - join us there!

News From The Starship

Big news is coming for the Medieval Starship Website. After many successful shadow-runs against opposing corps, our friends in low places have datajacked a few important resources that we're looking to work with. Things are tied up in R&D right now, but once the science boys give it the OK (and the legal team sorts things out with Renraku...) we'll be unveiling the shiny new stuff.

If you have an event, or something you'd like to see as part of the digital world of the Starship (or just to drop a compliment for the fine Shadowrun imagery above), send an email to starshipsteve@gmail.com

Later, Chummers!

TANKSGIVING UPDATE:

We hit a little speed bump and will have

to make a change to the Saturday event.

The Assembly event at 10am is cancelled.

The Painting event will begin at noon for

PRE-PRIMED at home models with the

judging at 1:30pm. The BATTLE will still

begin at 2pm and run till 7pm.

News from the Starship

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America '  for an amount of 'up to and including my life.

That really about sums it up for me on this Veteran's Day.

It's kind of appropriate that our next major

store event is called "Tanks Giving"

On Saturday, 20 Nov, come join a full day of fun. It's a Warhammer 40K showdown with only a tank (or another appropiate model) with which to win the day.

  Schedule is:

10am to Noon- Assemble the tank you purchased at the store between now and start time.

Noon to 1:30pm- Paint the tank

1:30pm to 2:00pm- Submit the tank for judging.

2:00pm to 7:00pm- Compete in a total slugfest for the bragging rights as the best of the best! (oh yeah, and win a prize)

Some rules- the tank you assemble, paint, and use to compete does not have to be all the same unit. In fact you could use something different for each phase. You will gain points and some abilities for the assembly and painting; winner of the painting will also prosper. Also, you can skip construction and just paint, or skip both and just bring a tank to the battle.

Some adjustments will be made for lower point units for balance. When you get killed, you are out for just a moment, returning fully repaired at the start of the next players turn.

So, whether it's a Leman Russ or a Carnifex, come on down!

News from the Starship

and are already planning on some fun events.

   Wednesday's continue to be D&D Encounters, a

opportunity to try out 4th edition with some great

gamemasters. Come early, as it's first come, first

serve for seating and we are starting to hit our

table capacity.

Fridays is Magic Nite. Most weeks are swiss draft

format (and if you don't know what that means, come

on down and we'll help you with it!). Draft starts

promptly at 7pm so be here prior to register.

Veteran's Day is 11 November. When you come to

the checkout, please show your ID card so we can

show our appeciation for your service!

On Saturday, 20 November, at 10am we will start

"TANKSGIVING", a Warhammer 40K showdown. Bring

your army's best tank to a no-quarter slugfest. Your

army doesn't use tanks? No problem, just bring your

biggest unit!

And yes- we are closed on Thanksgiving and yes- we

will be giving thanks to all of you that have made

Medieval Starship your store! Thank You!

News from the Starship

Wow, we have some great fun coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Let's start with this Saturday: GAMMA WORLD GAME DAY! Gamma World

was one of the first sci-fi RPG's back in the day. Now it's been made all shiny

new and we have a full day of showing it to you planned. Come by this

Saturday and try it out! Also on Saturday, we will be doing some

WARHAMMER 40K beatdown. Ever wonder how to play? Come by and we'll

give you a chance to experience the fun!

The next Saturday, 30 October, is our chance to say "thanks" to all of you

that are helping us grow as your game store. Our HALLOWEEN BASH

will be a spooky day of gaming, giving you the chance to try out and play

some scary games. Plus refreashments, plus special pricing for anyone

brave enough to come to the store in costume- but you won't be alone as

the staff will also be all dressed up!

Advance word for November- on Wednesday, 3 November, from 6pm till

8pm, we'll be hosting reps from Steve Jackson Games. They'll be here in

the store to show us all both new and current product. And as a special

treat, we'll have a heavy hitter in the gaming world here as well-

as well as FRAG and dozens of other  titles.  Come meet (and perhaps

throw down some dice) with the folks that bring us so much fun!
