We hope you have been enjoying our web site, and we look forward to meeting you when you come into the shop. You've seen what we have in store for you, now let us share some of our favorite things. As you can tell from looking at our walls, science-fiction and Traveller in particular plays a big part. Jay has given a home to many original works of Traveller cover art and other memorabilia, including the original sign from the first GDW offices in Normal, IL.
Although sales slumped badly in the mid-90's for RPG's, Traveller was doubly hit by the death of GDW and the false start of Imperium Games. But by the time the millennium turned, the grand master of Sci-Fi RPG's came back in full force. Today Traveller is being published by several companies, including Far Future Enterprises in the Classic version, Steve Jackson Games in a GURPS version, and by Qwiklink Interactive in a D20 version. These products are listed in more detail on our Traveller page.
We also enjoy getting out of the shop from time to time to meet new friends
at gaming conventions. Cons are a great way to not only promote gaming, but
to get new ideas and spend some quality, interactive time with real human!
We enjoy movies and computer gaming, too, but find it much more entertaining
and challenging to game mano y mano. That is why we support local conventions
like DieCon. Check our Announcements section for
information about upcoming Cons.
In the same vein, Jay and Barb really like to see kids enjoying person-to-person
games in a safe but open forum like you see with Collectible Card Games, RPG's
and strategy games. Board games like Risk, Monopoly, Checkers,
Chess, Parchese, and even Battleship and Blip don't really hold kids' attention like they used to
for us long ago. But Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z,
and Lord of the Rings keep their eyes wide. We like
to carry graphic fiction and paperbacks in the game genres to encourage some
good, old-fashioned reading, as well. As parents and grandparents, we understand
the challenge of channeling children constructively!
Finally, we wanted to mention a few of our favorite gaming-related places on
the Web. For Traveller we recommend that you start at
Downport.com, the Traveller Web
Portal. Over a dozen sites are hosted or affiliated with Downport, and most are
well cataloged and searchable.
Below is a banner link the
The Traveller Trader, a friendly competitor of ours. All they sell is
out-of-print Traveller titles, but they maintain a wider selection than we
do. We have purchased collectibles from them many
times and can recommend their products and service.
